Community Internships & Student Projects
Overview
Community Health Initiative (CHI) Community Internships & Student Projects enable graduate students that are enrolled full-time at the University of Minnesota the opportunity to consult with or work for community-based nonprofit organizations and businesses that serve socially and economically disadvantaged communities or communities of color.
CHI Community Internships place individual students with local community-based nonprofit organizations or businesses. Several CHI Community Internships are available each summer. Internships begin in early June and typically conclude at the end of August. Internships are paid and full-time. Only full-time graduate students enrolled in the Medical School, School of Public Health, or School of Social Work are eligible to participate in the CHI Internship opportunities.
CHI Community Student Consulting Projects are experiential learning opportunities for students to work on specific projects that have been identified by local nonprofit organizations or businesses involved in addressing public health issues. These projects may vary in their scope of need, but may focus in areas such as research, family planning, assisting medical staff/nurses, health administration, and outreach. Other projects may have a business focus and involve providing management and technical assistance to these organizations by doing business plans, marketing plans, research, financial/accounting assistance, human resource development, etc. CHI Student Projects are available during the fall and spring semesters. Like internships, CHI Student Projects are paid opportunities. Graduate students enrolled at the University of Minnesota in the School of Public Health, School of Social Work, Medical School, Carlson School of Management, IT/Computer Science, Law School, or the Humphrey Institute are eligible to participate.
