Overview

Community Health Initiative (CHI) Scholarships support students - who are socially and economically disadvantaged and require financial assistance. Students must be enrolled in the University of Minnesota Medical School, School of Public Health or School of Social Work. The students must also demonstrate academic promise, professional commitment to community service, maturity, adaptability and respect for other cultures, and must meet the following:

CHI Scholarship Qualifications Include:

  • Current, admitted, and enrolled first- or second-year graduate or professional students in the University of Minnesota Medical School, School of Public Health or School of Social Work
  • Students from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with special considerations for students of color
  • Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or greater
  • United States citizens or permanent residents
  • Full-time students

Scholarships are Offered for the following Schools:

  • Medical School: Scholarship awards at $3,500 each
  • School of Public Health: Scholarship awards at $2,500 each
  • School of Social Work: Scholarships awards at $2,000 each

*The number of scholarship awards and amounts are subject to change.

Scholarship Awards may be used to cover the cost of educational expenses like tuition, fees, books or room and board. CHI Scholarships may supplement but not duplicate benefits from other scholastic awards or exceed the cost of tuition, fees, books or room and board. CHI Scholarship applications are available at the designated schools.
